Dr. Timothy Adams to Lead ASBA Study Club on Craniofacial and Airway Dentistry
ASBA Credentialing Board member joins Dr. Scott Parker, DDS, for a two-day program on TMJ, biotensegrity and oral appliance design.
This study club gives practicing dentists a working framework for identifying airway and craniofacial issues that are often overlooked in general practice,”
TAMPA, FL, UNITED STATES, August 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Dr. Timothy C. Adams, DDS, D.ABSA, will speak both days of a two-day continuing education seminar hosted by the American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA), scheduled for Aug. 14-15, 2026, at the Hilton Phoenix Airport in Phoenix, Arizona. The program, titled "Open Loop Cricket with Epigenetic Appliances" ASBA Study Club, will examine craniofacial and airway-related topics including cranial strains, biotensegrity, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction and emerging oral appliance designs, with the goal of helping general dental practices build structured sleep apnea treatment programs.— Dr. Timothy C. Adams
The seminar is designed for practicing dentists seeking to expand their clinical understanding of the relationship between airway function, jaw structure and whole-body wellness. Over two days, attendees will work through case-based instruction on identifying craniofacial and airway-related issues in general practice and applying oral appliance solutions in treatment planning. Sessions are expected to cover cranial strain patterns, the concept of biotensegrity as it relates to jaw and airway function, evaluation of TMJ dysfunction, and newer approaches to oral appliance design intended to support long-term airway management. Dr. Adams will co-instruct alongside David Gergen, CDT, chief executive officer of ASBA's Dental Division, with special guest presenter Dr. Scott Parker, DDS, joining for both sessions. Parker serves as vice president of clinical affairs at DEKA Dental Lasers, where he oversees clinical education and hands-on laser training for dental practitioners nationwide.
The two-day format is structured to give attendees both the clinical framework and the practical steps needed to begin integrating airway and sleep-related screening into a general dental practice. Organizers describe the course as geared toward dentists at any stage of building a sleep apnea treatment program, from those evaluating whether to add the service line to those refining an existing protocol.
"This study club gives practicing dentists a working framework for identifying airway and craniofacial issues that are often overlooked in general practice," Adams said. "My goal for these two days is to leave attendees with practical tools they can bring back to their own patients right away."
The program is presented by the American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA), a professional academy for dentists and allied sleep professionals focused on dental sleep medicine. ASBA administers a Diplomate accreditation process for dentists practicing in the field, and Dr. Adams currently serves as a member of the organization's Credentialing Board. The academy describes its mission as advancing professional excellence in airway, breathing and sleep-related care through education, training and collaboration with the broader dental and medical community.
The subject matter carries added relevance given the scale of the condition it addresses. Industry research estimates that roughly 936 million adults worldwide have some degree of obstructive sleep apnea, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine has reported that up to 60 percent of sleep apnea patients do not comply with or tolerate CPAP therapy, a factor that has driven growing clinical interest in oral appliance therapy as an alternative treatment path.
