Trump, Jordan’s King Discuss Regional Escalations in Phone Call
The two leaders addressed the rapidly deteriorating regional situation and weighed its far-reaching consequences for both regional and global security and stability, according to a Royal Court statement.
During the call, the king conveyed Jordan's unambiguous stance against Tehran's retaliatory aggression. "The king affirmed Jordan's absolute rejection of Iran's attacks on its territory and on a number of countries in the region," the Royal Court statement read.
King Abdullah II pressed for immediate diplomatic action, stressing the urgency of collective efforts to bring hostilities to a halt. The king underscored "the need to intensify efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable calm, noting that de-escalation is essential to restoring stability and advancing prospects for peace in the region."
The call came days after a seismic development reshaped the region's power landscape: joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities on Saturday morning killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with some of the leader's family members, senior military commanders, and civilians. Iran retaliated swiftly, unleashing multiple waves of missile and drone strikes against Israel and U.S. military bases stretched across the Middle East.
