Drone Attack Leaves Seven Tribal Leaders Dead in Sudan
The lethal strike occurred just 24 hours after RSF militants captured the strategic Heglig facility, compelling Sudanese military units to withdraw technical staff and laborers southward into South Sudan.
Sources informed media that an unidentified unmanned aircraft struck high-ranking tribal figures in Fama, a locality adjacent to Heglig, resulting in multiple casualties.
RSF representatives attributed the drone offensive to the Sudanese military's arsenal.
Military officials have yet to address the paramilitary group's allegations.
Monday witnessed RSF forces declaring operational command over the Heglig petroleum complex, justifying the seizure as necessary protection for critical energy infrastructure in the territory.
The three Kordofan provinces—North, West, and South—have experienced relentless combat between governmental troops and RSF militias spanning recent weeks, forcing tens of thousands of civilians into displacement.
Across Sudan's 18 administrative regions, RSF forces maintain dominance throughout the five western Darfur states, excluding certain northern segments of North Darfur under military authority. Conversely, army units control the majority of the remaining 13 states spanning southern, northern, eastern, and central territories, including capital city Khartoum.
The armed confrontation between Sudan's national military and RSF, ignited in April 2023, has resulted in thousands of fatalities and forced millions from their homes.
