Trump Insists Gaza Ceasefire Remains Secure

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump affirmed on Wednesday that “nothing’s going to jeopardize” the Gaza ceasefire agreement, even as a fresh series of Israeli airstrikes left at least 18 people dead throughout the enclave.

While addressing journalists aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea from Japan, Trump acknowledged that he had been informed of the recent assaults “a little while ago,” noting that they occurred in response to the killing of an Israeli soldier.

“The Israelis hit back, and they should hit back when that happens,” he declared. When questioned about whether these attacks might endanger the truce in Gaza, he reiterated: “Nothing’s going to jeopardize that.”

Trump also commented that “Hamas is a very small part of peace in the Middle East,” stressing that “They said they would be good, and if they’re good, they’re going to be happy, and if they’re not good, they’re going to be terminated.”

He further mentioned the involvement of other nations in regional peace efforts, stating, “We have many countries that are willing to do that,” and added that “even Japan today said they’d love to be involved in the Middle East” during discussions in Tokyo.

According to Trump, the truce process is progressing, as he remarked, “We’re getting into phase two,” referring to the upcoming step of his 20-point initiative for Gaza.

Reports indicate that at least 18 Palestinians lost their lives on Tuesday due to Israeli air raids across the Gaza Strip, signaling another breach of the ceasefire arrangement established under Trump’s peace framework.
