China says it has “complicated” relationship with India

(MENAFN) China stated on Monday that its longstanding boundary disagreement with India is “complicated” and will require time to resolve, while reaffirming its commitment to ongoing diplomatic channels.

This response came after Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh called for a clear plan to reduce tensions and reach a permanent solution along the border. A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, emphasized Beijing’s openness to continued talks.

“The boundary question is complicated, and it takes time to settle it,” Mao said during a routine press briefing in Beijing.

Last week, Singh met with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun in Qingdao, an eastern Chinese city.

Mao highlighted the existing communication frameworks at multiple levels between the two countries, describing them as a positive foundation.

The dispute centers around the Ladakh area within the contested Jammu and Kashmir region, a source of prolonged friction.

Mao also reminded that both nations have established a special representatives mechanism, along with agreed political guidelines aimed at resolving the border issue.

“China stands ready to maintain communication with India on issues including delimitation negotiation and border management, jointly keep the border areas peaceful and tranquil, and promote cross-border exchange and cooperation,” she added.
