Top Indian, Russian MPs get together in Moscow
(MENAFN) Dr. Shashi Tharoor, head of India’s parliamentary committee on international affairs, met with his Russian counterpart Leonid Slutsky in Moscow on Tuesday. The two senior legislators exchanged views on current global challenges, including the Middle East tensions, the situation in Gaza, the Ukraine conflict, and recent military developments between India and Pakistan.
The talks centered on exploring peaceful solutions for the Ukraine crisis, reflecting on last month’s direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv in Istanbul. Regional security in Asia and cooperation within the BRICS parliamentary framework were also key topics of discussion.
Tharoor’s visit to Moscow was arranged at the invitation of RT, with bilateral ties between Russia and India prominently featured. Both sides reaffirmed the enduring strategic partnership between their countries.
Slutsky described the meeting as a valuable chance for dialogue among legislators from nations influential in global politics. He emphasized India’s importance as a BRICS member and highlighted the need for the group to advance discussions on establishing a parliamentary dimension within BRICS in the near future.
Maintaining friendly ties with both Israel and Iran, India has urged both countries to avoid further escalation. The Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate the conflict and address underlying issues, shortly after Israel’s initial strikes on Iran last Friday.
