Iran sanctions can be lifted if peaceful behavior is demonstrated- Trump
“If they can be peaceful, and if they can join us, they are not going to do any more harm, I would take the sanctions off,” Trump said during a Fox News broadcast on Sunday.
He emphasized that a softer approach might be more effective than harsh measures, adding that easing sanctions “would make a big difference” for Iran.
Earlier, Trump had paused efforts to ease sanctions after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened to target US military bases if further attacks were carried out on Iranian sites.
Regarding reports that Iran moved enriched uranium out of harm’s way before US strikes, Trump dismissed these claims, pointing to the heavy weight and logistical difficulties involved. He explained that because the US provided “not much notice” before the attacks, relocating such material would have been “hard” and “dangerous.”
“They did not move anything. They did not think it was going to be actually doable what we did,” Trump stated.
The president also described Iran as “exhausted” following recent Israeli and American military actions, predicting that nuclear activities would halt for some time. “Last thing they are going to be doing right now, for a period of time, at least, is nuclear. They have had it,” he remarked.
On a related note, Trump mentioned that several countries have shown interest in joining the Abraham Accords, the normalization agreements between Israel and Arab nations, though he did not identify which countries. “We have some really great countries in there right now, and I think we are going to start loading them up, because Iran was the primary problem,” he said.
