Up to 40 Feared Trapped After Building Collapse in Philippines

(MENAFN) Dozens of people are feared buried beneath debris after a nine-story building under construction collapsed early Sunday in a city north of the Philippine capital, media reported.

Between 30 and 40 individuals are believed trapped following the collapse, which struck during a thunderstorm in Angeles City in Pampanga province and triggered a large-scale multi-agency rescue operation, media reported.

More than 100 police officers and government personnel were urgently working to extract those believed buried in the wreckage.

Angeles City Information Officer Jay Pelayo said conditions beneath the debris remained unclear but that authorities were aggressively executing a structured search plan. Eight people with minor injuries have been rescued, while the project foreman and 10 construction workers managed to escape without harm.
